We’ve obtained exclusive footage from inside a holding cell at the San Ysidro Port of Entry as part of this story. A group of people who were returned to Mexico after requesting asylum in the U.S. were held in cells like this for 18 days in April.

Customs and Border Protection holding facilities are meant to hold people in custody for 72 hours or less.
